How Do Exam Access Arrangements Work in International Schools in Spain?

Find out how exam access arrangements, such as extra time, support students with dyslexia in international schools across Spain and Mallorca.

For students with dyslexia or learning difficulties, exams can be extra challenging. That’s where exam access arrangements come in.

What are they?
Exam access arrangements are adjustments that allow students to demonstrate their knowledge without being unfairly disadvantaged by dyslexia. The most common is 25% extra time. Others may include a reader, a scribe, or the use of a laptop.

How are they granted?

  • An assessor with an APC qualification carries out standardised testing.

  • The results are shared with the school’s SENCO.

  • The SENCO submits the evidence to the exam board for approval.

Why are they important?
These arrangements don’t give students an unfair advantage. Instead, they level the playing field, allowing them to show what they really know.

In international schools in Spain
The process follows similar rules to the UK system, especially in schools offering IGCSEs or A Levels. Parents should speak to the SENCO early to ensure everything is in place before exams.
